Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

The Fenty Beauty range by Rihanna seemed to come out of nowhere! In the week leading up to the launch I started to see it on social media and was very intrigued. I'm not one of Rihanna's biggest fans or anything but the hype building up on the expected products and the few sneak peeks I saw seemed great, so I set my alarm for 8am on launch day so I could get involved.

Luckily I had a look on Sephora ten minutes before the launch and managed to scout out the products before they went live on the Harvey Nichols site. I settled on six products, plus a sneaky L'Oreal Balmain lipstick (Confidence, the rose gold shade of course!) before I hit checkout!

I chose the shade 110 in the Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (£26 at Harvey Nichols), based on the description I saw on the Sephora website (very fair skin with neutral undertones), however after ordering then spending more time on the Harvey Nichols site (once it had speeded up after the rush!), I did think I had perhaps ordered too light. The model for that shade is even more pale than me, which is quite rare!

The Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks (£21 at Harvey Nichols) really caught my eye as there are some fabulous shades. I managed to whittle down my choices to just Starstruck, a gorgeous light pearly champagne shade, to use as a highlighter and Yacht Lyfe, a shimmering peachy pink to use as a blush on my skin tone.

The most exciting products of the launch, in my opinion, are the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duos (£26 at Harvey Nichols). I chose both the lightest and the deepest shades in the collection and I know the deepest one is obviously too dark to use as a highlighter on my skin tone, but this is the product I was most in love with from the sneak peeks before the launch. These duos seem to have a more subtle highlighter on the left side and an amped up version on the right. They can be used as eyeshadows, which is how I intend to try the darkest Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule shades. Although, I think I'll try them as a blush too as the colours are so beautiful, I need them all over my face! The Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal duo is amazing for pale skin.

The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer (£16 at Harvey Nichols) is a beautiful rosy toned nude with lots of shimmer. It smells like a mix of vanilla and fruit, which I think is really nice.

From left to right I've swatched: Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in shade 110, Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks in Starstruck and Yacht Lyfe, Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal and Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule.

The day after writing this blog post, which I was saving for a few days before putting it live, I tried all of the Fenty Beauty makeup on my face to see what I thought. The foundation shade actually wasn't too bad. It was a little scary when I first put it on my face and you have to blend super fast as it dries fairly quickly. I used a damp beauty blender and managed to work it into the skin quite nicely. I feel like it definitely darkens up a little when it dries so that was handy for me! I didn't find it to have a lot of coverage so I did add a little extra concealer over blemishes and my under eye area, even though I still could have done with more! You could try layering this product up but I didn't because I was nervous about using a matte foundation on my skin when I usually get dry patches. I used my most moisturising primer before applying this and it actually took to the skin quite well and the texture improved throughout the day.

I used the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule all over my eyelids. I love the colours and the shimmer. I used both Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks on my cheeks, Yacht Lyfe as a blush and Starstruck as a highlight. At first I felt like they weren't going to blend into my skin but after a little work with the beauty blender, they were fine and I liked the finish.

I finished with the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal in the inner corners of my eyes and on my cupid's bow and I think it looks nice. I'm excited to use this on my cheeks next! I also added a slick of the gloss and found it to be very shiny with a balmy texture. It was not sticky at all and I felt like it plumped my lips without any of the tingle/pain you get with actual lip plumping products.

I'm very impressed with this first line of Fenty Beauty makeup and I'm interested to see what Rihanna may launch in the future.

Have you bought anything from the Fenty Beauty range?
