Christmas Gift Ideas For Her

I've put together a little post containing gift ideas for the ladies in your life, whether they are a makeup lover, prefer a gift for the home or maybe a little accessory. There are ideas to cater for all ages and I hope you enjoy reading this post.

For the lady who loves a bit of sparkle or shimmer, I love all of these make up gifts. They would be perfect as Christmas presents, stocking fillers or even a treat to yourself for the party season! The Stila Eye for Elegance Liquid Eye Shadow Set (£45 from Boots) and the Stila Written in the Stars Set (£25 at Cult Beauty) are filled with mini versions of the Stila liquid eyeshadows which I absolutely love. They are the best cream eyeshadows I've ever used!

MAC are absolutely killing it this year with their metallic holiday gift sets. I particularly love the rose gold ones and my top picks are the MAC Snowball Face Bag in Peach (£35 at MAC) and the MAC Snowball Pigment and Glitter Kit in Pink (£25 at MAC). I love the golden pink highlighter and the soft brush in the first set, not to mention the stunning packaging! The second gift is a really great way to try three of the pigments/glitters in a mini size instead of buying a full size one. This comes in other shades too but this is my fave!

Another rose gold option is this stunning Seksy Rocks Ladies' Stone-Set Black Strap Watch* (£99 at H.Samuel). This is a beautiful slim strap watch that I think would really dress up an evening outfit. I love the rose gold metal and the shimmering black rocks on the strap. I'd feel quite special wearing this as it looks so stylish. There are some other beautiful watches in the Seksy Rocks range here if you want to have a look.

Who doesn't love a good candle?! Exactly! I've got a few different options to cater for different budgets and tastes here. Starting with the luxury candles by Diptique, these are the small versions of the 2017 Holiday candles in Phoenix - Incense Tears (£28 at John Lewis), Dragon - Fiery Orange (£28 at John Lewis) and Unicorn  - Frosted Forest (£28 at Diptyque). They all smell incredible and how stunning is the packaging? You can buy a set containing all three from Space.NK for £84 here.

For someone who likes Christmassy food/alcohol based scents, the Next 6 Scents of Christmas set (£12 at Next) would be perfect! I love all of the metallic coloured jars and you get a wide variety of scents. Not bad for £2 per candle! You could even split this one up and gift them individually as stocking fillers.

Yankee Candles are always a great option and they have so many different scents. Their Christmas range alone is pretty extensive, not to mention their full range, which they are always adding to. You are guaranteed to find the perfect scent! The Christmas candles are currently 30% off at yankeecandle.co.uk so it might be worth checking there first if you want anything!

Beauty crackers would make a perfect stocking filler or exciting addition to the Christmas table. I've got a few here as an example. The Yardley English Rose Hand Cream Cracker* (£4 at yardleylondon.co.uk) is fairly inexpensive and I reckon a grandma would be pretty chuffed with this alongside her knife and fork at the dinner table, but I do actually love a bit of rose myself! The Color Wow Carb Cocktail Cracker Duo* (£10 at colourwowhair.com) would be a fab treat for someone into haircare or it might be a nice pampering treat for your Mum, especially if she's cooked Christmas Dinner for the whole family!

For someone who is into natural, botanical skin/bodycare, the Bramley Mini Starter Set* (£18 from bramleyproducts.co.uk) could be perfect. It contains travel size shampoo, conditioner body wash, bubble bath and body lotion in a gorgeous array of scents.

The Yardley Hand Cream Collection* (£10 at yardleylondon.co.uk) would be a nice treat for an older lady or perhaps shared between four lovely ladies. The hand creams are scented with four of the classic Yardley fragrances - lavender, rose, bluebell and dahlia.

There are so many other gifts I could have mentioned but I'll leave it here! I still have some Christmas shopping of my own to do so I better get on with it! Have you got much shopping left to do?

Autumn/Winter Fragrances

During the warmer months, I'm all about the sweet fruity scents but when things turn a little colder, I do prefer a slightly stronger scent. I thought I'd tell you about some of the fragrances I'm swapping over to for the next few months!

Too Faced Christmas 2017 - Pretty Little Planner & Best Year Ever

The Weekly Reviews #1

I ran a little Twitter poll to see what kind of beauty posts were your favourites. Reviews actually came out on top and I realised that I don't tend to post a lot of them really. I often get very excited about some new products that I've bought, show them on here or instagram, then they're never to be seen again!

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Masterclass

I seem to have a thing for big gift sets of lip products at the moment don't I?! Check out my MAC Liptensity Collectors Set here if you haven't seen that one yet and you'll see what I mean.

MAC Liptensity Collectors Set

I was browsing the New In section of the Selfridges website the other day, as I do quite frequently, and I stumbled across a huge MAC lipstick set.

Sephora Holiday 2017 - Part Two

If you saw my previous Sephora Holiday 2017 post, you'll know that I love all of the Sephora kits and I hinted that there was a second post coming! Yep, before my last order had even arrived, I couldn't help but order more Holiday stuff as soon as it launched on the Sephora site.

Central Oven + Shaker - Newcastle upon Tyne

A few weeks ago, my work colleagues and I had a team night out starting with pizza and cocktails at Central Oven + Shaker in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a fairly new bar and restaurant that has opened just over the road from Central Station. I've been desperate to go here since it opened but I don't get out much so it's taken me a while to get there!

Topshop Bag Haul

For the last few years, I've pretty much only bought bags from Michael Kors, Coach or Kate Spade but I'm getting a little bored of those. You'll probably see most of them for sale on my blog soon to be honest! I'm very much lusting after Gucci bags at the minute but they are considerably more expensive than my usual purchases so I will need to save for one of those.

September Favourites 2017

We're now one week into October and I realised I haven't done a monthly favourites post for a long time. Hopefully it's not too late to share my September Favourites with you and I'll be looking to post these more regularly again.

Sephora Holiday 2017

Over the last few weeks, Sephora have been adding a lot of their Holiday sets and gifts to their website. I've been seeing all of the sneak peeks on the Trendmood instagram account and building up quite the wishlist (and not just on Sephora)!

Fenwick Beauty Corner

Last month I was invited to Fenwick Newcastle to take a look around their new #FenwickBeautyCorner. It's located within the Beauty Hall on the ground floor and it has a whole host of exciting brands to perfectly complement the high end brands already available on the amazing beauty counters. I'm often in Fenwick having a look around so it's fun to have even more things to browse.

Primark Homeware Haul

Every time I step into Primark, I somehow end up being in there for about two hours and come out with several of the giant brown paper carrier bags! I thought I'd show you some of the things I picked up from the home section recently, along with a couple of beauty products thrown in.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

The Fenty Beauty range by Rihanna seemed to come out of nowhere! In the week leading up to the launch I started to see it on social media and was very intrigued. I'm not one of Rihanna's biggest fans or anything but the hype building up on the expected products and the few sneak peeks I saw seemed great, so I set my alarm for 8am on launch day so I could get involved.

Goodbye Suzy Hearts Beauty

If you follow me on any of my social media channels, this won't come as a surprise. Basically after having the name Suzy Hearts Beauty for around 6 years, I decided I wanted a change. It took me quite a while to think of a name that wasn't taken already on all of the social media channels as well as the domains.

I knew I wanted to take my personal name out of my blog name. Although to be honest, Suzy isn't actually my proper name anyway. I get called that by some of my family but my name is Susan. I also wanted to take the emphasis off beauty in my blog name as I would like to expand into other areas such as lifestyle, travel and local content. Saying that, you are probably thinking, but gloss is makeup?! When I picked the name Northern Gloss, I was actually thinking a lot about incorporating "gloss" into my name because I like the connotations of shiny, bright, luxury and so on, that come with it but I guess I do like lipgloss too! I also thought about the phrase "northern grit" and quite liked the play on that, as I did quite fancy having something in my name that referenced where I'm from (North East England, for those outside of the UK!).

Now that I've got my little notice out of the way, I thought I'd let you know that I do actually plan on blogging more this year. I've got a few posts photographed so I'm planning on getting those typed up ASAP and we'll take it from there! Let me know if there's anything on my instagram (because that never stopped!) you've seen that you want me to talk more about on here and I'll see what I can do!

Thanks for still following me after quite a long blogging break, apart from all of the huge blog sales of course! See you soon!

Bobbi Brown Havana Brights Collection

Now we're in March, I'm starting to get really excited for the summer! Something else making me excited for summer is the brand new Havana Brights collection by Bobbi Brown. It features some amazing neon coral packaging on some of the products and I can't wait to take it away on holiday with me!

The collection features two gorgeous Illuminating Cheek Palettes, three Art Stick pencils, six Dual-Ended Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks, three Art Stick Liquid Lips, a Mini Face Blender Brush and a stunning cosmetics bag (exclusive to Fenwick and Bobbi Brown direct).

I was kindly gifted three pieces from the collection so I thought I'd let you know my thoughts on them.

My favourite product has to be the Illuminating Cheek Palette in Peach (£35). It contains a beautiful, slightly shimmery bronze that is perfect for fair to medium skin tones, a pretty peachy coral blush and a peachy highlighter. I love wearing the combination of all three but they can obviously be used separately too. This will be so handy for taking away on holiday as it's compact and you don't need to take three separate products!

The Dual-Ended Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks (£28) are absolutely gorgeous. They tend to contain one darker and one lighter shade that pair beautifully together. I got the Truffle/Bronze combo and I love it so much. I love using the Bronze shade all over the lid and blended out with a brush (or you can use your finger!). Then use the lighter Truffle shade to highlight the inner corners and brow bone. They are super long lasting, so again would be perfect for holidays.

The final product I was given is the Art Stick Liquid Lip in Havana Coral (£21.50). These liquid lipsticks are a new launch and Bobbi Brown has a whole host of shades available, in addition to the three that have been released for this collection. They are so unique as they look like a pencil product but they are actually a squeezy plastic tube! You dispense a little bit of product out of the tube then use the applicator to spread it across the lips. You don't need much product as this is highly pigmented! I was also excited to see that these are a semi-matte product as I was expecting it to be glossy.

You can see me wearing all three of those products on my instagram photo here!

I was shown the full collection at Fenwick Newcastle on Friday and I honestly love it all! The cosmetics bag is so nice and I really like the mini brush with the coral handle too. I had some eyeliner applied whilst I was there and it was actually amazing! It was the new Long-Wear Waterproof Liner  in Blackout (£24) and I really loved the effect on my eyes. If only I had a makeup artist to apply it every day for me as I'm rubbish at eyeliner!

If you're interested in getting your hands on something from this collection, rush to Fenwick from Monday 6th March as it's exclusive to their stores for the first three days of the launch.

Are you going to buy anything from the Havana Brights collection?

NARSissist Unfiltered Cheek Palettes

Get ready to see some seriously beautiful new cheek palettes! NARS have launched their NARSissist Unfiltered Cheek Palettes and they are so good I had to buy them both!

As far as I know the palettes are only available direct from narscosmetics.co.uk at the moment and they cost £45 each. (Update: They now seem to be popping up at Selfridges, Feel Unique, etc!).

I - Watch Me, II - Me First, III - Takeover, IV - Out There, V - Chic, VI - Exhibit A

The NARSissist Unfiltered I Cheek Palette (£45 at narscosmetics.co.uk) is the deepest of the two palettes. The shades are warmer in this palette and it will be more suited to medium to dark skintones over the other palette. It has a gorgeous gold highlighter shade (Watch Me) that reminds me of Albatross and I just love that gorgeous red shade (Exhibit A)! It's honestly not as scary on the face as it looks, even on my super pale skin.

I - Conquest, II - Undefeated, III - Power Play, IV - Hot Sand, V - Fame, VI - Candid

The NARSissist Unfiltered II Cheek Palette (£45 at narscosmetics.co.uk) contains the cooler toned, barbie pink shades. This one is probably most suited to fairer skin tones like mine. I really like this one too. I love the mix of shimmers and mattes. I think this one will look fab in the Spring/Summer months and I can't wait to use this some more.

Both palettes are amazing quality, just like the regular NARS blushes. The shades are all pigmented yet blend beautifully on the cheeks. I think these are great value too as it's a great way to try six different blushes for the price of 2 regular ones. I absolutely love the gorgeous packaging too!

Which palette is your favourite?

Sunday Riley Martian and UFO

Today I wanted to let you know about two of my favourite skincare items. My chin area is very spot-prone, which I think is a hormonal thing and I can get those really sore spots that linger under the surface for ages before popping up. I've found two amazing products that I've been using and they really keep the spots away. Honestly, if I stop using them to try something else, the spots come straight back!! I really can't be without these now.

Both products are from Sunday Riley but the first, in terms of the order I use them is the Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner (£48 at Cult Beauty). This is not your typical toner! It's a green lightweight lotion, that transforms into a thinner liquid on the skin. I use a cotton pad to apply one pump to my entire face and then let it finish soaking in. This makes my skin feel so fresh and clean but it also leaves it moisturised. The finish on the skin is matte but not uncomfortable at all. I also get dehydrated skin so I love that this is good for both spots and hydration.

The other superstar product in my routine is the Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil (£68 at Cult Beauty). This is hands-down the best oil I've ever used. This oil, like the toner, also has a clean, fresh feel on the skin and isn't super heavy and greasy. It sinks in nice and fast. I wear it day and night, it doesn't cause any problems with my makeup. It hydrates the skin beautifully and it really helps to make my skin smooth and clears up any existing spots, whilst preventing future ones. Despite its colour, it doesn't leave your skin green either!

I love these products because they are very effective on blemish prone skin without being drying. A lot of spot treatments leave the skin flaky and dehydrated but these do not strip the skin at all. They have relatively high price tags but they are worth every penny for me. They actually last quite a long time too so they aren't something you are going to have to replace every month. I bought these back in October and I've only just started my second bottle of Martian. I've been using them both twice daily for most of the time since October. As you can see, I'll be needing some more UFO soon but I might get another 2-4 weeks out of this!

Have you tried any Sunday Riley products? I've got my eyes on the new CEO cream ($65 at Sephora.com) next. It's only been released in America so far though but I think it's due here in a few months.
