Collective Haul #2

If you follow me on instagram, you've probably seen most of these purchases already but I just thought I'd show you what I've been buying beauty wise over the last month or so.

I'm a sucker for Essie nail polishes and glitter polishes so I've added to my collection with these goodies. The Essie Winter Collection 2013 is the first set of minis I've bought from the brand but since I never use up a full bottle of polish I thought it was worth giving it a go. Some other new releases include the Rimmel 'Space Dust' collection, the Essie 'Multi Dimension' top coats and the Maybelline 'Brocades' so I obviously needed these! Hehe.

I've been loving a lot of L'Oréal products lately so decided to pick up the Nude Magique BB Powder in Light as I loved the texture of it when I swatched it and it seemed light enough for my skin. The Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution is a repurchase. A 4th time repurchase at that! I love this stuff and it's often available for £3.33 on offer. When the Skin Perfection first came out, I had my eye on the BB Cream as the fair colour seemed perfect for my skin so I eventually caved in and bought it.

I spotted these new MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers on the Superdrug website so had to try them for £3 each or 3 for 2! I love the colours and the packaging so I've got high hopes for these. Looking  forward to trying them.

I picked up these products whilst shopping for my latest giveaway prizes as they were things I've fancied buying for a while. The Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks are amazing and I wanted to try this orange based red especially since it's a possible MAC Morange dupe! Sleek blushes are lovely so I had to pick up the cult 'Rose Gold' shade. I thought the raspberry shade 'Muse' in the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede was really nice too so with a 3 for 2 deal, it was hard to refuse! The Barry M Naturals palette is super pretty. It has very wearable eyeshadow shades and a gorgeous blush.

For years I've wanted to try the Bobbi Brown Corrector for my dark under eye circles so a few weeks ago I found myself at the counter swatching away when the sales assistant offered to try it on me. Along with the Creamy Concealer Kit and of course it had to be put over the Hydrating Eye Cream. Oh and you need the proper brush to apply it... Yep an unsure £18.50 initial purchase turned into just under £100 worth of dark circle covering kit.

Minutes after my Bobbi Brown spend, I had the urge for more high end goodness and the Gift with Purchase offer at John Lewis for Clarins was just too good.

The deal was if you buy two products, one to be skincare, you get a gift free. If you bought a third product, you would get a further gift. I'd already decided on the Clarins Essentials Eye Palette and the Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil. I'm almost out of my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair so I thought the Blue Orchid oil would be a lovely replacement as I fancied trying something different. Even the though ANR is amazing! With the lure of the further gift with three purchases I decided to go for the raved about Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner. I got to pick my first four free gifts from a choice of 8 deluxe size products. I went for the iconic Beauty Flash Balm, Multi-Active Day moisturiser, HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase (tried this before and it's amazing for dehydrated skin) and the nude shade of the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector. The extra gift I got was the Extra-Firming Body Lotion and the Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate which seem like a luxurious treat for a pamper night. The lovely sales assistant also chucked in a few samples so I have cute sizes of the Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream and the One Step Cleanser.

My final purchases are from the very generous 50% off sale at e.l.f (eyes lips face).

These blushes really appealed to me because the ones on either side look similar to NARS and the middle one reminded me of a MAC Mineralize Skinfinish!

I fancied trying this heavy duty Maximum Coverage Concealer for my under eyes along with the High Definition Undereye Setting Powder. This purchase was before the Bobbi Brown haul but I guess it would be good to compare these.

I've got one of the slightly more expensive Mineral lipsticks by e.l.f but I thought I'd try a few of their £1.50 line so I looked up swatches online and went for these.

I've got the Eyelid Primer in the Champagne shade but it's a bit glittery for daytime wear so I picked up the Sheer version as it was a bargain. I don't own any lipliners but I quite fancied trying a few. More for the all over wash of colour look rather than actually lining the lips but again these were only £1.50 so I'm not bothered if I don't like them!

So there we have all of my recent purchases and now I can see why exactly I am skint! Oops!

New Makeup Storage

Last weekend I made a very exciting trip to Ikea to finally purchase an 'Alex'! My make up collection has been getting out of control lately and it's been stored in lots of different places which has meant it's hard to see what I've got and things get forgotten about. I wanted to go for the wide 6 drawer version (link) which comes with castors that you can put on the bottom but I didn't want those on. This unit is also £90 like the usual 9 drawer version (link) people seem to buy but I fancied having more of a surface to put things on top.

I'm not really going to talk at an individual product level, I just thought you might like to see how I've filled mine in case you're thinking of buying one. Feel free to tell me how ridiculous this much makeup is for one person. I've been into buying beauty products for years but I don't think I'd have this much if I wasn't a blogger! Oh and before I forget, this doesn't include my vast nail polish collection so if anyone has any ideas for storing nail polish that would be fantastic. I have around 200 bottles (at least!) but I'm looking to get rid of some of the older ones. They are currently stored in two glossy boxes plus a massive box that I had from a Christmas gift set a few years ago.

So lets see how I've loaded my makeup into this unit... (Note: drawers are shown from top to bottom and the top three drawers are more shallow than the bottom three, as you can probably tell from the photo above)

Lipsticks, glosses, crayons, balms, etc:

Blushers, bronzers, powder highlighters, a few Benefit Cosmetics kits:

Eyeshadows, crayons, mascaras, eyeliners:

Foundations, BB/CC creams, tinted moisturisers, powders, primers, concealers, liquid highlighter:

Brushes:

Skincare bits:

On top of the unit I've got my daily skincare and usual makeup items. The pink pots are actually plant pots from Ikea for £1 each and I thought they were a really cute colour so had to have them. (link here - although they are £1.75 not £1 as I paid) They would be great for makeup brushes.

How do you store your makeup?
Do you have the 'Alex' or have you gone for something more original?

Elemis: QVC UK Today's Special Value (TSV) for Christmas

I just wanted to write a quick post for any Elemis fans to let them know about the Today's Special Value (TSV) on QVC UK.

Image from QVC UK website

They have a great collection called the '6 Piece Face & Body Indulgence Collection' for the bargain price of £39.96 (plus £5.95 P&P) on sale today. This is a one day only price so if you're interested you need to buy it today if you want to pay that low price.

I love Elemis TSV's as they are a massive bargain. Elemis is a luxury salon brand that is rather expensive and I've owned lots of their products mainly via QVC TSVs! They are a great way to try new products, stock up on your favourites and as an introduction to the brand. I'm not being paid for this post, I'm just letting you know about this great deal as I've bought the last two Christmas TSVs as I just love them! I'll be honest, I'm not going to buy this year's as I have so much stuff to use up including some of the contents of this one but I was rather tempted.

The contents of this collection:

  • 1 x Jasmine & Rose Milk Bath (290ml; full size)
  • 1 x Frangipani Monoi Shower Cream (200ml; full size)
  • 1 x Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (30ml; special size)
  • 1 x Frangipani Monoi Body Oil (35ml; travel size)
  • 1 x Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (30g; travel size)
  • 1 x Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm (15ml; travel size)
  • 1 x silver bag

Just to let you know about the value of this set, these products separately would set you back over £100! The Marine Cream alone would cost £47.50 for this 30ml size. Also the Jasmine & Rose Milk Bath is a brand new release from Elemis so that's great too!

Check out the QVC UK website (or the television channel) for more information on these products (and to buy if you're intestested!).

John Lewis Beauty Gifts: My Top Picks

This morning I've been having a browse on the John Lewis website at the lovely Christmas gifts so I've picked out my favourites to show you all. Maybe it will help you with choosing a gift for someone you know or maybe it will just increase your own wishlist!
Laura Mercier Votive Candle Sampler Collection (link)
I've always fancied trying Laura Mercier candles as their body products smell luxurious and delicious so filling your room with scents of Creme Brulee, Tarte au Citron and more would be amazing!

Ciate Mini Nail Lacquer Advent Calendar Gift Set (link
Even though this is an advent calendar, it could still be given as a gift on Christmas Day instead. I don't think anyone would complain about receiving 25 gorgeous nail polishes all on one day instead of over a month! I've been super tempted to buy this for myself.

NARS Fling Lip Gift Set (link)
I'm loving NARS gift sets this year. This set contains a great range of colours and finishes to experiment with at a fantastic price. It comes in a cute lips pouch too!

Clinique Whole Lotta Candy Make-Up Set (link)
I'd love to try more of the original lip crayon! Clinique were the first brand to produce these and I bought one at the time but have never got round to trying more. This is a great way to try more colours for a lower price.

Bomb Cosmetics Candy Land Gift Set (link)
This set is full of super cute bath goodies and is a cheaper alternative to Lush. I love the packaging too, it's so fun! I'd love to receive something like this.

Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Eyeshadow Palette (link)
How beautiful is this palette?! I saw this up close and personal last week whilst spending a small fortune in Bobbi Brown at Fenwick and I was in love with the colours. This would be fab for creating some Christmas looks but the colours are suitable for all year round.

Philosophy Fruitcake Mix Set (link)
I love Philosophy products, they always smell yummy! This set looks great as each product has a different use and fragrance. I love the mini sizes too as I find it hard to use a full size bottle of their shower gel up as I love trying different things too much!

October Favourites

I decided not to do a 'Favourites' post in September as I didn't really use that many different products. I bought a lot as usual but for some reason didn't get round to trying any of those things out. In October I was loving lots of things so I have to tell you about those! Sorry this post is a little late though. I started a new job last week so I've been really tired every night and couldn't face blogging! I've got nearly a thousand blog posts to catch up on in Bloglovin too!

Lush - Rose Jam shower gel (link)
I'm not usually a lover of rose scented products, I find them a little old fashioned so I wasn't expecting to like the Rose Jam shower gel in Lush but with it being a limited edition product, I was drawn to it. I don't know what it is with products being limited edition and me feeling like I need them but anyway... I absolutely love this shower gel! It smells like turkish delight due to its combination of lemon and rose. I find this lathers up really well on a shower scrunchy so you only need to use a little bit which is good since this bottle was £9.25! It's also really softening on the skin which is probably down to the argan oil. It's a shame this is a limited edition product but it says on the side that it's the same fragrance as their Ro's Argan Body Conditioner and Rose Jam Bubbleroon so I could be tempted by one of those when this runs out!

L'Oréal Paris - EverRiche Nourishing & Taming Shampoo and Conditioner (link)
I'm sure you've seen these feature on many beauty blogs, that's certainly what made me want them anyway! These are aimed at very dry, rebellious hair which I don't have but after trying a sample of the shampoo from a magazine I decided I needed them. I have fine hair and these do not weigh my hair down at all. They make my hair feel really clean and nourished. The shampoo forms a rich lather on contact with water and it feels really soothing on my sensitive scalp. I love the clean, gentle fragrance of these products. I'm really glad I tried these products and I have another version of this shampoo for fine hair in my stash so I'm looking forward to trying that one too.

L'Oréal Paris - Skin Perfection Correcting Day Moisturiser* (link), Advanced Correcting Serum* (link) and Awakening + Correcting Eye Cream (link)
I've already mentioned these in another blog post so I won't go into these too much but I've found that they make my skin so smooth and the facial products have really helped make my pores appear smaller and my skintone more even. The eye cream feels really nourishing and creates a great base for my concealer. See my in depth blog post here.

The Body Shop - Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter (link)
For the last few years I've been into creamy/balmy cleansers rather than foaming ones that strip my skin of moisture. There are a few very expensive balms on the market that are around the £30-40 mark which is too much for something that would need to be replaced fairly often. When The Body Shop launched this back in the Summer, I was really excited to try it as it would be a nice cheap alternative. At £12 for 90ml I think this is reasonable. Especially when you try the product and realise it's amazing! The product looks a bit like lard but you only need a little bit to rub between your palms and it turns to an oil that you massage on to your face and remove with a muslin cloth or flannel. I find this really luxurious to use and it's great that you can use it around your eye area.

Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer (link)
Primers aren't a beauty item I buy often as I find them a bit boring but Bourjois' new products this year have been amazing so when I spotted their new primers on the shelf on special offer I had to pick one up. They have a matte version but having dehydrated skin I went for the luminous one for normal to dry skin. I don't notice a big effect on the skin when I've just applied this but once I've added my foundation over the top, I think the results are amazing. First of all, the foundation glides on a lot smoother and I need less to get the same amount of coverage I would normally have. Also it leaves my skin looking glowy and radiant. Amazing! They have a foundation in the Happy Light range which I wish I could try but unfortunately I find Bourjois foundations too dark for my skin.

Lush - Santa's Lip Scrub (link)
Lush do lip scrubs in their permanent line and I've tried and loved two of them but when I saw this cute red one in the Christmas collection I knew I had to have it. Even more so when I opened the jar and loved the delicious cola scent! Lip scrubs are perfect for the winter when you start getting dry, flaky lips and I really enjoy licking this off when I'm finished! Check out my post on it here to see a close up.

EcoTools - Airbrush Concealer Brush (link)
I love this soft brush for buffing concealer into my under eye area. It's also good for applying concealer around the nose and over spots. Really nice and not very expensive.

MAC - Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Vintage Selection (link)
This is my second MAC Paint Pot and I'm loving this beautiful shimmery metallic beige/champagne shade. It's really long lasting on the eye and it blends in easily with your fingers. Simples!

Rimmel - Moisture Renew Lipstick in Glam Plum Fulham (link)
The Rimmel Moisture Renew range was recently relaunched with some new shades and after seeing it pop up on some of my favourite blogs I had to go and swatch them for myself. I chose this gorgeous plum colour as it's the perfect Autumn colour and I love it. Some say it's a bit of a dupe for MAC Rebel so that's a bonus! It's so moisturising on the lips and feels really comfortable to wear. If you want to see this on my lips, check this post out. I've already purchased another shade after loving this one so much.

Maybelline - The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara (link)
I love the brush on this mascara. It's one of those big plastic ones with bristles all the way round. It really volumises the lashes but it's also great for separating each lash too. My new favourite!

Closed - Christmas Giveaway (International)

My '500 Bloglovin followers giveaway' just ended this week but I felt quite sad that it was over so I decided to do another one! This time I'm making it an international giveaway as so far I've only done UK ones but I want to include all of my followers as I am so grateful to all of them for following my blog.

I've chosen some fab products that I either already owned or decided to buy for myself alongside the prizes as I've read a lot of great things about them. All of the products photographed are my own versions, the winner will receive brand new, unopened versions. Hopefully you will like my selection of products and it will make a nice little treat for Christmas.

There will be one winner of my giveaway and they will win all of the products featured in this post. The giveaway will be open for one month then the winner will be selected at random. The winner will receive email notification and the prize will be sent out as soon as possible after receiving the winner's postal details. I can't guarantee the prize will reach you before Christmas as it depends on your location but fingers crossed!

The prizes:

Maybelline The Rocket Volum' Express in Black - I've been loving this mascara lately. It really separates the lashes with the plastic toothed brush and it's great for volume too.

Bourjois Color Edition 24H in Petale de glace - I love this eyeshadow as it's different to other cream shadows with its powder finish. I've chosen a natural colour that should suit most skintones/eye colours etc.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Muse - This is my second colour in this line and I love the beautiful raspberry shade. It's perfect for this time of year.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in the shade In Love with Ginger - Again this is my second colour from this line and I chose it because I've read it's a bit of a dupe for MAC Morange which I've always fancied buying. The formulation of the lipsticks is amazing as it's really moisturising, as you might expect from the name.

Sleek Blush in Rose Gold - Sleek blushes are so nice and pigmented so I had to pick up the popular shade Rose Gold. This peachy gold will give a gorgeous glow to the cheeks.

Barry M Natural Glow Shadow & Blush palette - Barry M recently brought out three palettes and this one appealed to me most. This set contains some very wearable neutral shades and a light pink blush. This set would be perfect for travelling or adding to your bag for a top up throughout the day/night.

Good luck to you all :)

Boots Star Gift: Ted Baker - The Great and the Gorgeous

In the run up to Christmas, Boots have a special offer on each week where they have one of their Christmas gifts on for half price or slightly less than half price! I'm not always interested in these offers as I don't really have anyone to buy beauty gifts for and I'm not always willing to buy them for myself but I couldn't resist this weeks.

This set by Ted Baker is called 'The Great and the Gorgeous' and first of all I love the packaging! It's pink, has a floral design on the back AND has rose gold! Perfect! Of course the contents are pretty good too! I'm impressed by the quality of these products as I'm not one for cheapy makeup sets. The original price of this gift is £40 but you can get it for £19 for the next week (until 7th November 2013) or until it sells out.

The contents:
  • 1 pale pink nail polish
  • 1 glittery gold nail polish
  • 1 pale pink/champagne cream eyeshadow
  • 1 pink glitter eyeshadow
  • 1 pinky red lip crayon
  • 1 plum lip crayon
  • 1 pair of false eyelashes with glue
  • 1 thin felt tip style eyeliner
  • 1 set of 4 eye makeup brushes
  • 1 pale pink liquid illuminator
  • 1 bronze-gold liquid illuminator
  • 1 powder bronzing compact

I'm loving so much of this kit. The cream eyeshadow is a gorgeous colour, the lip crayons are really pigmented and glossy, the false lashes look nice and natural, the pink colour of the brushes is so nice, love the illuminators and the bronzing compact is so pretty and not orange! The quality of the brushes isn't the best but you're not paying a fortune for this set. The glitter eyeshadow has lots of fall out and isn't pigmented enough to wear on its own but layered over the cream shadow looks good.

I was thinking if you were buying this as a gift you could split it up into lots of little gifts if you are on a budget. The individual products would make great little stocking fillers too.

If you are interested in buying this, the link for the Boots website is here and I spotted this YouTube video from their Facebook page. It's worth a little watch as it shows you how the glitter eyeshadow looks over the cream shadow.

Are you tempted to buy this?
Which gifts are you hoping get reduced to half price during the run up to Christmas?
