The Mother of all Hauls!

Yes that's right, I popped into town yesterday for something to do and ended up spending a small fortune! If you've been reading my blog recently, you will know that I set myself a challenge not to buy any makeup in the month of September. I've well and truly failed that now but you know what? I work hard for my money so if that's what I want to spend it on then so be it, it just means my savings haven't gone as planned this month!

Primark

Primark was my first port of call and I picked up a few lovely scarves. I'm always seeing ladies wearing these types of scarves but I'd never actually bought one before. I really liked the silver/gold threads running through these so I finally bought some. £4 each isn't bad for style and warmth.

I also purchased some jewellery as they had some really nice things in. Stud earrings are my favourite type to wear during the day so I picked up these 9-packs for only £1.50 each. I chose a gold pack and a silver pack. I think they are really cute and such good value. The necklace with three little hearts, one each in rose gold, silver and gold is also pretty cute (and cheap!) so I had to have that too.

Fenwick

I was doing well as I'd only spent £13.50 so far but then I went into Fenwick and made a rather big decision to purchase a Michael Kors bag! I've been lusting after them for ages and I've had my eye on the totes like this one here but I fancied a smaller bag that I could wear rather than carry. When I spotted this Selma Shoulder Flap bag (link for Harrods), I thought it was stunning. It's a really classic style with gorgeous gold hardware on it. It will go with lots of outfits so I should get my money's worth. I don't normally buy expensive bags so I have to admit it was quite thrilling taking it to the counter and buying it! I definitely want a bigger one like the tote mentioned above but I'll need to wait for that.

Boots

I popped into Boots as I had £26 worth of Boots advantage points burning a hole in my purse so I headed straight for the YSL counter and began swatching lots of lipsticks. In the end I was stuck between a Rouge Volupte Lipstick in the shade 11 (Rose Culte) and a Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in the shade 61 (Fuchsia Clandestin). They are both pinky red colours but after some advice from the Sales Assistant (who told me the Volupte shade would be too bright for my pale skin - not sure I agree but I went with her choice anyway), I settled on the Rouge Pur Couture. How gorgeous is the packaging?! You gotta love a bit of luxury, especially when you get it for free ;)

After going all out, big style with my designer purchases, I think it spurred me on to go even more wild, cue my forbidden makeup purchases! I started picking up items until I could no longer carry them, then once I had a basket it turned into something like supermarket sweep, putting everything in my basket! Oops!

I love Essie nail polishes so whenever there is a new collection out, I head straight to their stand in Boots to have a look. There are 6 shades in the Autumn/Fall 2013 collection and I bought 3 of them. My favourite is 'The Lace is on', a shimmery dark pink-purple shade. I also bought some colours that I don't really have in my collection already, 'Vested Interest' - a blue toned grey, and 'Cashmere Bathrobe' - a dark grey with subtle multicoloured shimmer. Whilst browsing the stand, I noticed a colour I hadn't paid any attention to before - 'Tea & Crumpets', a beautiful shimmery nude colour. When you look at stock pictures of this colour it looks awful, nothing like it does in real life!

I picked up my first Maybelline Color Tattoo last month in the shade 'On and On Bronze' and I haven't actually gotten round to trying it yet. I'm so boring and stick to the same choices every day for work and forget to experiment at weekends! Anyway, after reading numerous glowing reviews I added a few more shades to my basket. I went for the 'Metallic Pomegranate' and 'Pink Gold' shades. I'm really looking forward to trying all of these shades as them seem like a good alternative to MAC Paint Pots but for a third of the price or cheaper when you get them on offer like I did!

I think I'm getting towards the end of my current mascara and I've been wanting to try the Maybelline Rocket Volum' Express one so I thought it was a good time to get it. I also ended up getting a Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush lip crayon in the shade 'Give me a Cuddle'. It looks like a nice natural pink colour and it smells sweet so I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

I've bought a lot of makeup brushes lately, well three Real Techniques sets to be exact but I couldn't resist the buy one get one half price offer on Ecotools as the Airbrush Concealer really appealed to me. The second brush I chose was the Tapered Blush brush as it also looks fab. I've heard lots of good things about Ecotools so I'm sure these will be great.

I needed a few essentials whilst in Boots so I picked up my favourite cotton wool pads, the double sided ones as they are strong and don't fall apart when using them. They are good quality and don't scratch your delicate eye area either. I picked up my third bottle of the L'Oreal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution as I love it so much. I needed some handwash so I picked up some of the Original Source one as it was on offer for £1. I love the Vanilla Milk and Raspberry scent as I've had it before in the shower gel version and it smells like strawberry milkshake! Yum! I hate, hate, hate buying razor cartridges as they cost a fortune but it had to be done. The Gillette Venus ones are my favourite, sometimes I mix it up a bit and go for the Olay or other types as they all fit the same razor but this time I went for the Embrace ones as they are the cheapest!

I've tried the John Frieda Volume range before but it was a few years ago when the packaging was more of a blue colour than this new turquoise shade. I'm not sure if the formulation has changed but I fancied giving it a go whilst it was on 3 for 2. I chose the shampoo and conditioner, along with the Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray.

Soap & Glory have brought out a new hand cream called Hand Dream so having tried and liked their other two hand creams, I had to give this one a go. I was due a new hand cream anyway so this was a good time to pick it up. The Garnier Body Intensive 7 Day Refreshing Gel-Cream caught my eye on it's offer stand so I ended up going for the Grape version, suitable for normal to dry skin. It was only £1.49 for 250ml so I thought that was a bargain. I really like their hand creams so if this is as good as those, it should be a great product.

New Look

The final shop of my haul is New Look. I headed there as I was hoping to pick up another pair of boots. (See my haul here for the first pair I bought). I love this pair that I got for £27.99 as they don't look really cheap, they don't have a big heel, they seem to have decent grips on the sole, they are from the wide fit range so fit me perfectly and they have a lovely fleecy layer on the inside. Perfect!

Whilst in there I also spotted these black quilted flats with a gold toe in the wide fit range so I decided to grab these too. Very classic looking and will go with my new bag! Not bad for £17.99.

So that brings us to the end of my haul. Hope you enjoyed seeing what I've bought! Please leave any links to your hauls in the comments below as I'd love to see them.

10 Makeup Picks for Autumn

I'm getting rather jealous of all the bloggers going out shopping for Autumn makeup so I decided to look through my makeup stash to see what Autumn appropriate products I could find in there. I suppose there is a plus side to not buying makeup this month after all! You will see that the majority of my picks are lip products as I find it easier to go bold on the lips rather than other parts of my face.

Maybelline Super Stay 10H Tint Gloss in Forever Coral (£6.99 at Boots)
I would liken this product to the YSL Glossy Stains as it's a glossy product applied with a wide, flat sponge applicator. You can build up the intensity of the colour by adding more layers and this dries to a beautiful, longlasting stain. I absolutely love the scent of this product too, it's like sweets! This is a lovely deep red shade, not a coral as it's name suggests but I think it's perfect for this season.

Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Scarlet (available on eBay)
You probably wouldn't think of lipgloss as an Autumn product but there are a lot of people who don't really like lipstick so I thought I'd include a lipgloss. Annoyingly it appears this shade may have been exclusive to QVC as I can only find it on eBay! I like this lipgloss as it's thick but not sticky and it's a lovely rose colour with berry toned shimmer in it.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable in Romantic (£7.99 at Boots)
Another red stain product but this time with an easy crayon style applicator. This shade is also more on the orange-red side and it's not as glossy. I love the minty scent of this one.

e.l.f. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Flirty & Girly (£2.50 on the e.l.f. website)
This is a beautiful dark pink shade that glides on to the lips easily. I think it would be fab for an Autumn night out when you want a bit of a darker colour on the lips with some added sparkle. Really good value at £2.50 as well.

17 Supreme Shine Lipstick in Pink Posey (£4.99 at Boots)
This is a gorgeous plum shade that has a pigmented formula and a shiny finish. I couldn't find this shade on the website so I'm not sure if you can still get it in store or not but there seems to be some similar shades so it may be worth checking those out.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie* (£7.99 at Boots)
This deep berry shade just screams Autumn to me! It's super pigmented and has a glossy finish. It leaves your lips feeling hydrated too.

e.l.f. HD Blush in Diva (£3.75 from the e.l.f. website)
My blush collection consists of corals and light pinks so this is the deepest shade of blush I own. As you can see it's scarily pigmented and it would be fairly easy to look like a clown with this one however it's such a beautiful colour and when blended out it leaves a rosy look on the cheeks, perfect for the colder months.

Essie Nail Polish in Bahama Mama (£7.99 at Boots)
I've raved a lot about Essie nail polish on this blog so I'm sure you know how much I love the high quality finish and fab range of shades already! I normally wear really bright nail colours so I always feel quite sophisticated wearing this burgundy shade.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Pomegranate (£3.99 at Superdrug)
I just love this shade of nail polish as it's a beautiful shade of red. I'd describe it as a rich red shade with a hint of pink. It's so pretty.

Max Factor Max Effect Mini Nail Polish in Deep Coral (£1.40 on Amazon)
This is another product I've included in this post that has 'coral' in the name but isn't a coral! This is a shimmery, duochrome polish that is mostly a burnt orange metallic shade with gold when you catch the light. This colour really reminds me of the orange leaves falling from the trees in Autumn and I guess orange is a Halloween colour too. I just think it's a bit different from all the berry shades so I'm really liking it.

Clothes Haul - September 2013

This week I've had a lovely relaxing week off from work and although I set myself a mission not to buy any makeup this month, I knew I would be splashing out on some clothes. Because I'm not massively happy with my body and I'm more obsessed with makeup, I don't tend to buy clothes that often but I decided I needed some new bits and pieces after living in baggy jeans and vest tops for a bit too long.

I've really struggled to find jeans that fit me lately. I must be inbetween clothes sizes as I find them either too big around the waist or the next size down I can't get past my thighs! It's so annoying as it's left me walking round in jeans that fall down all of the time which isn't very comfortable. Since I've had more time to look around this week, I decided to pop into Marks & Spencer to see what they had. This isn't normally a shop I would buy clothes from as it's a bit off putting when you pick up clothes that 60 odd year old women are also looking at! Anyway, I hit their denim section and surprising found lots of pairs that I really liked. They weren't at all granny-ish and they have quite a big range. I took about 8 pairs into the changing rooms and ended up purchasing 2 of them as they were the perfect fit for me. They are both skinny jeans and the prices were very reasonable, only £25.00 for the pair on the left and £19.50 for the pair on the right. If you're struggling to find jeans that fit, I'd highly recommend you take a look in M&S.

Whilst in M&S, I spotted that we (Newcastle) now have one of the fancy beauty halls with fab brands like REN, Jurlique and more so I picked up a few sachets of the Apivita face masks as I've been liking the look of them when I've seen them on blogs. I chose the Express Beauty with Orange and the Express Beauty with Pink Clay. They were £3 each but they each contain two sachets which I think is a good price.

Last week I was eyeing up a faux leather jacket in Warehouse but at £58.00, I wasn't sure whether to get it or not. This all changed when I spotted it in Debenhams with 20% off though so I managed to get it for £46.40 which I think is great. It will make a nice change from my black jackets anyway! Something else I picked up in the 20% off event was the jumper dress from the Red Herring range. I think this will go nicely with leggings and boots in the colder months.

Lately I've spent a lot of time browsing the New Look website and I've spotted quite a few nice things both clothes and shoes! I prefer to buy in store so I can try things on so I held off ordering anything and had a long look around my local one. I bought a lovely blue chiffon style shirt that was extremely difficult to photograph, my camera just wouldn't focus on it for some reason! I've been loving boyfriend style t-shirts recently so I picked up a grey one to add to my collection. The purple and blue rose print dress was something I spotted on their website so I was pleased to see it in store as I just love the pattern. I bought this to go with leggings/tights and boots too. I've seen a lot of chunky jewellery on blogs over the last year or so and I've always been tempted to buy some but I don't often wear jewellery so I never got round to buying some. The prices are pretty good in New Look though so when I spotted the necklace for only £5.99 I had to have it! I picked up the earrings for £2.99.

One of the main reasons I headed to New Look was for some boots as I need a few pairs for the Autumn/Winter. I already had in mind that I wanted something black with gold detailing so these Boots were perfect. I didn't necessarily want a heel but since it's not massive they should be ok. I'll be buying some flat boots soon though too. I'm not really into buying expensive shoes as I would be gutted if they got wrecked so I quite like buying going out shoes and winter boots from New Look as they tend to be around £15-£30 which is great.

At H&M I picked up a nice dark blue jumper and some straight leg black trousers with gold zip detailing around the top. The trousers were a massive bargain at £14.99 and they feel like they are good quality so I'm pleased with those.

Because the Newcastle Primark is massive now, I can spend around an hour and a half in there at a time! Despite being in there for so long I only spent a fiver on this nice blue vest top with gold chain straps. I think they had this in black and white versions too. I don't know what it is with my camera but I really struggled to photograph this top as well. It must be this shade of blue! Anyone else unable to focus their camera on this shade of blue? (I use a Canon 600D).

Finally I did have a little trip to Boots but I was fairly good. I picked up a copy of Look magazine which I rarely buy these days but it's still my favourite of the weeklies. I also picked up the free Boots magazine as I quite enjoy reading that and seeing what products are available. Even if I have probably seen them on a dozen blogs already! I really liked the look of the Imperial Leather Foamburst body washes, the packaging is gorgeous and they have some interesting scents. They were on offer for £2 so I picked up the Rebalancing Green Tea & Jasmine and Bewitching Blackberry & Wild Fig scents. They should be a good change from my usual sickly sweet scented shower products! I think I managed to get round my September make up ban by buying Colgate toothpaste that came with a free Nails Inc nail polish. That's ok right?! They have two shades of red available, a regular glossy red and a metallic red which I chose as I thought it would be great for December!

Autumn Look: Look Beauty Mini Makeover Palette

As we have moved into September, a lot of beauty bloggers have started going crazy for Autumn shades of makeup. Eyeshadow wise I've noticed that MAC Cranberry is a very popular colour, as is the similar shaded Maybelline Color Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate. I'll admit I'm pretty desparate to get my hands on both of these but as I'm trying to be good and not buy any makeup this month, I went in search of something similar in my stash.

I think I've found a pretty good dupe in the Look Beauty Mini Makeover Palette - Pretty Green Eyes version. I was pleased with this as it gave me a chance to use the palette for the first time. As you can see from the swatches, the eyeshadows have varying levels of intensity, with the darker colours being the most pigmented, apart from the matte brown colour on the end which is pretty impossible to use!

Not only is the plum shade similar to MAC Cranberry, I think the green shade could be a dupe for something like MAC Club. I don't own this eyeshadow either so I may be wrong but it's another eyeshadow I've lusted after so it's good to have something similar in my existing collection. The look I've created is using the Cranberry-esque shade all over the lid, with the green colour in the outer corner and crease. I also added a tiny bit of the light gold/champagne colour to the inner corners of my eyes.

I thought the dark, dusky pink coloured blush in this palette was pretty good for Autumn as I would normally wear a coral or lighter pink blush. This is fairly pigmented so you only need to use a little bit for a lovely flush of colour on the cheeks.

I used the brownish nude colour on my lips as I wanted to keep them fairly neutral since I was using quite strong colours on the eyes. You need to swirl your finger round these lipsticks quite a few times to pick up the colour but they look really nice dabbed on to the lips.

So overall I'd say this wasn't bad for £3 (sale price) since it contains some possible dupes for some £12.50 eyeshadows! You can buy this palette on the Look Beauty website here if you're interested.

You Beauty Discovery Box

There's a new beauty box on the market but this one is slightly different to the usual GlossyBox or Birchbox so I thought it was worth a mention in case anyone is interested in ordering one.

This new box comes from You Beauty Discovery, the people behind You Magazine (free magazine with the Mail on Sunday).

This monthly beauty box comes in cheaper than the other boxes at £6.95 a month (inc. P&P) and the unique part about this box is that you choose two samples from a range of 6-10. Then they chuck in a few extras to go with them.

The bit I don't really like about Birchbox/GlossyBox is that you often receive products by unknown brands. I know the point of these is to discover products you wouldn't normally buy but I'm a bit of a brand snob and if I see top end names that I've heard of, I'm more likely to get excited by them!

I'd never heard anything about this box until I noticed a tweet on the first of September and I ended up ordering one straight away. I know I'm going easy on the makeup spending this month but I didn't choose any makeup so that's fine ;)

The choice of samples for this month included Decleor BB Cream, Cowshed Body Butter, Daniel Sandler Waterproof Eyeliner and more. I went for a Shiseido Super Corrective duo of Eyecream and Serum plus a Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum. They are pretty decent sizes too at 5ml, 9ml and 10ml respectively.

The extras for this month were a bottle of Pure Gold Collagen, a sample of Lalique perfume and an emery board by The Vintage Cosmetic Company. I'm probably not going to drink the Gold Collagen but I'll certainly give the perfume a try and I'll definitely use the Emery Board.

I am impressed with this box as it's a good price and at least you are getting something you have chosen plus some extras unlike a random box of crap you may not want!

There are also going to be limited edition boxes available throughout the year so I'm quite excited to hear more about those.

You can check out the website here if you would like more information.

Have you ordered one of these boxes? What did you get?
Are you thinking about trying this box?
