NOTD: Plum and Gold

I don't really own many dark nail polishes so I was excited when I received this Revlon Nail Polish in the shade Vixen*. It's a gorgeous plum colour which is perfect for the Christmas season.

I painted two thick layers of the polish on my nails to get a gorgeous, glossy, opaque finish. The polish dries pretty fast so you don't need to wait too long in between coats.

To accustom myself to such a dark colour, I decided to add a little glitter to the ring finger nails. As I hadn't tried my freebie Nails Inc polish from Glamour Magazine in the shade Glamour Glitter, I thought this would be a great opportunity as the colours make a great combination.

Glamour Glitter is a clear nail polish with flecks of golden glitter. I used two coats of this and it dries to a smooth finish. It makes a fab glittery top coat which I'm sure I will wear again as it makes me feel all Christmassy!

What are your favourite nail polishes for the Winter?

Final Haul of the Month

I had quite a spending spree this weekend, in fact, I went to town three times in as many days! Naughty me, I must stop spending on myself when there are Christmas presents to be bought!

Anyway, I thought I'd share my purchases with you as I know some of you like reading haul posts.

Lee Stafford products are currently 3 for £12 in Boots so I usually indulge when it's at that price as you can save quite a bit of money. I noticed a new range called "Breaking Hair" so I picked up the shampoo and conditioner hoping it will do my hair some good. I also bought the Beach Blondes Shampoo which is a purple shampoo formulated to correct the tone of brassy blonde hair. I haven't dyed my hair for a year so the lighter blonde ends are looking a bit yellow so I'm hoping this will help a bit. I can't wait for all of my hair to be my natural dark blonde colour!

I was desperate for some nail polish remover after using a lot on removing glitter nail polish so I picked up the Cutex Nourishing Nail Polish Remover. I normally go for a cheaper Boots own brand version but thought I'd try this for a change. I use my Bourjois Magic 1 Second Nail Polish Remover for regular polish but it doesn't really work on glitter polish.

Make up is also on offer at Boots where it's buy one get one half price so I picked up eight nail polishes but three of them are now in my Christmas Giveaway! The remaining five I chose for myself are Essie Mint Candy Apple, Essie Watermelon, 17 Holo Nail Polish in Silver, Rimmel Precious Stones in Ruby Crush and Models Own Jack Frost from the Wonderland Collection.

I've been wanting Essie Mint Candy Apple for ages so I'm glad I finally bought it. I can see this working quite well with a top coat of the Models Own Jack Frost on the ring finger. If it looks good I'll post about it on my blog this week :)

I've been interested in buying a holographic nail polish ever since I saw a Gosh one ages ago so I'm looking forward to trying the 17 version.

The Rimmel Precious Stones Nail Polish has already been tested and it's beautiful! It's perfect for Christmas. You can read my post on that here if you wish.

I bought quite a few items of clothing this weekend but I'm not very good at photographing clothes so I'm not putting them in this post. Primark have some great clothes in at the moment though. I picked up a few peplum vest tops for only £4 each, absolute bargains!

I picked up a few bargain pairs of shoes as well so I've put them on here since they are easier to photograph!

I've fancied some hi-tops for a while and did consider buying the concealed wedge ones but I didn't know how safe they would be when it's icy so I went for a flat pair. I love the navy colour and think they will look really nice with jeans. They were from Dorothy Perkins who had 20% off shoes so I only paid £23.20 for them.

I then spotted this nice pair of Boots in New Look and since they had 25% off bringing them down to £17.24 I couldn't resist!

Hope you enjoyed my haul post. Let me know what you've been buying or lusting after :)

Rimmel Precious Stones Nail Polish in Ruby Crush

I saw this fab red glitter nail polish in Boots and I had to have it as it is the perfect colour for Christmas.

I didn't even notice that the bottle states "High Coverage Glitter Nail Polish" but I certainly found that to be the case. The nail polish is full of tiny red pieces of glitter with some larger silver pieces as well. The small red pieces coat the nail really well and I managed to get a great coverage with just two coats but I went for one more so the photo shows three coats. The nail polish dries pretty quickly between coats so there's no waiting round for ages with this one either.

I absolutely love the colour and finish of this polish and I can't wait to wear it for my Christmas nights out. It actually looks like I've used a red glitter base polish and added a silver glitter top coat when I really haven't had to go to all that effort! It's one of the best glitter polishes I've tried and I'm tempted to see what other Precious Stones shades Rimmel have to offer.

Have you tried any of these polishes? Will you be picking one of these up for Christmas?

FOTD: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable in Romantic

I mentioned this in my last post but I recently won a Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain from the Revlon Facebook page and I'd forgotten about it until it turned up last week. I already own two of these in different shades so I was glad to receive the shade Romantic.

I'm sure you've already tried or read about these but if you haven't they are a mixture between a lipstick and a balm in a crayon style format. You don't need a sharpener for these as they just twist up from the bottom.

The shade Romantic is a gorgeous dark red colour which you can apply as a sheer wash of colour or build it up to a more intense shade as shown in my photo.

I love the glossy look to these and they feel so comfortable on the lips too. They have a refreshingly minty scent which is quite unique.

I don't normally wear a red lip so I'm glad to own this shade as I can experiment with different looks. I tried this with a smoky eye but I'm sure it would look great with a simple flick of eyeliner or a nude eyeshadow.

Other products used in this post:
  • Dr Jart+ BB Beauty Balm Platinum
  • Benefit The Porefessional
  • L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess
  • Bourjois Eyeshadow Trio in Les Argents
  • Topshop Cream Blush in Flush
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero

Have you got this shade? How do you wear the rest of your makeup when you've used this? Would love to hear your tips :)

Revlon Lip Butters - Autumn/Winter Berry Shades

I've blogged about Revlon Lip Butters before as I bought some lovely pink shades in the Spring when they were first launched. They are perfect for adding colour to the lips with a nice balmy, glossy finish. They are so easy to apply and wear too.

I now have a couple of berry shades that are perfect for the Autumn/Winter season. The shades I have are Berry Smoothie* and Raspberry Pie*.

Me wearing Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie

Berry Smoothie* is a rose toned shade with a hint of red shimmer. It's quite easy to get a subtle look with this shade and then build it up if you would like a stronger colour. It's such a gorgeous colour that's perfect for day or night time.

Me wearing Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

Raspberry Pie* is a super pigmented raspberry red shade. It's so easy to get a bold lip with this. I don't normally wear darker lip shades but this looks so pretty and the glossy finish makes it modern and sexy.

I took the photos of myself using my iPhone so that's why the quality isn't great but my proper camera wasn't showing the true colour of the products and I'm sure that's more important!

Hand swatches of Raspberry Pie and Berry Smoothie

If you fancy getting your hands on a Lip Butter it's worth flicking over to the Revlon Facebook page as you might be able to bag one for free. They are re-launching their "Sweet Boutique" where they are giving away 100 Lip Butters every day from today until 4th December. I fully recommend entering these competitions as I recently won something myself from the Revlon Facebook page. I forgot I'd entered a competition for a Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain until this beauty arrived last week.

Are you going to visit the Sweet Boutique on Facebook? Which Lip Butters are you tempted by?

Moisture Boosting Skincare Routine

I haven't done a skincare routine post before so I thought it was about time. My skin is far from perfect and I tend to get hormonal spots on my chin but I have found some great skincare to help with dehydration.

I've been using the above products for at least a month, most of them for longer so I've had a fair chance to test them now and I feel like I can give a fair opinion on them. I'm going to split up the products to show you what I use in the mornings and evenings.

In the morning I don't use a cleanser in the shower as I give my skin a good cleanse at night and my skin can get too dry or irritated if I use too many cleaning products. I simply wash my face with lots of warm water to ensure I remove any traces of moisturiser/treatments from the night before. After my shower I use the Bioderma Crealine Solution Micellaire to remove any final traces of panda eyes from the previous day. I'm not amazing at getting rid of all my mascara for some reason!

I use the Origins United State Balancing Tonic to refresh my skin and lightly remove dead skin cells. This is a nice alcohol free toner that doesn't sting my skin. It has a citrus-like scent which I like and it prepares the skin nicely for my next step. Prior to applying moisturiser I use a serum to help increase the hydration levels in my skin. I love the Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum as it's very watery and light. It makes your skin feel really smooth without adding a greasy sheen. Occasionally I've worn this alone, without moisturiser and my skin hasn't felt too dry so it's really great at adding moisture to the skin.

Dr Jart+ Most Moist Water-Sure Gel has been a fab recent addition to my routine. I love the texture of this gel-cream moisturiser. It feels light on the skin but deeply moisturises the skin leaving it feeling like silk. It's great for my dehydrated skin but it may be great for those with oily skin who need something extra in the winter too due to it's mineral oil-free formulation.

The final step in my morning routine is the Origins Plantscription Anti-Ageing Eye Treatment. I only have this in sample size but it's been a welcome change from my other eye creams as I felt like they weren't working for me. I normally prefer a thick cream formula but I've been enjoying this thick serum style treatment. It's really nourishing on my eye area and makes it easy to apply concealer over the top. I would love to buy the full size version but it's pretty pricey at £36.00 for 15ml!

I love smothering my face in Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish during my night time shower. It's so thick and creamy, it feels like I'm really pampering my skin. It's great at cleaning the skin without stripping moisture, something that happens with a lot of wash off cleansers for me. I mostly wash this off with a flannel as I prefer this to the muslin cloths.

Before bed I apply the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. This is quite a thick serum that feels luxurious on the skin. It sinks in pretty quickly so you're not going to be left with a wet face when you go to bed! I find this does wonders on spots and redness on the face as I often wake up with better looking skin after going to bed with this on.

Rather than use a separate night cream, I apply the Dr Jart+ Water-Sure Gel again as I really do enjoy the moisturisation effects on my skin.

If I feel like an extra boost of moisture, rather than use the moisturiser, I use the Dr Jart+ Water-Max Sleeping Mask instead. This is a mask that you leave on overnight and it has such long lasting results on my skin. My skin feels like velvet for almost 24 hours after using this! I did a full review on this here if you want to know more.

I hope you've enjoyed reading about my skincare routine. I'd love to hear about yours too so please leave a comment to let me know your favourite skincare products.

Soap and Glory Shower Goodies

After seeing Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup with some new Soap & Glory stuff recently, I've been desperate to get my hands on some but I had to work my way through the mountain of shower gel I had left first! The time finally came and I was able to rush to Boots and pick up some goodies.

My first purchase was the Sugar Crush Body Wash. I love these pump style shower gels by Soap & Glory as they make it so easy to dispense the product while you're in the shower. Also they are massive and last for ages! They always have super moisturising forumulas too so your skin always feels so good after using them. This one smells divine, it's predominantly lime based but I think it smells quite creamy too as if it has a hint of vanilla!

I also picked up the matching Sugar Crush Body Scrub after the disappointment of the Anatomicals scrub I tried earlier in the week! This also smells really nice and as it contains ingredients such as brown sugar and almond oil, I can tell it will be a very good exfoliating scrub that also helps to keep the skin hydrated. I'll certainly report back with my thoughts when I've used it though.

My final treat was the Whipped Clean Luxe Cream Wash Shower Butter. I loved the sound of this as I like moisturising shower products since I get lazy with body moisturising! With over 25% moisture oils and butters this should be a real delight to use. This one has a gorgeous pistachio, almond and vanilla scent. It smells like dessert!

I'm really looking forward to using all three of these products in my next shower. My bathroom (and me!) are going to smell amazing!

If you want to purchase these or any other Soap & Glory products they are currently on 3 for 2 at Boots

Have you tried any of these products or is there anything else you've been loving lately in your shower?

Dr Jart+ Water-Max Sleeping Mask Review

I bought this mask as part of the Boots 3 for 2 deal last month and I mentioned I would let you know my thoughts on it. This is from the Most Moist collection of skincare by Dr Jart+ which, as you can guess, is all about adding moisture to the skin.

My skin tends to get pretty dehydrated so I'm always looking for products to increase the moisture and stop my skin feeling dry.

This is an overnight mask that you apply 10 minutes before going to bed. It's texture is comparable to a gel moisturiser as it's not thick like a cream or like a traditional clay mask. Once you apply a layer to the skin it goes transparent and sinks in within about 5 minutes. I like this as I wouldn't want to go to bed with a thick treatment on the skin as I would hate it to rub off on my bedding.

Dr Jart+ Water-Max Sleeping Mask before spreading over the skin

Dr Jart+ Water-Max Sleeping Mask spread out over the skin

When I wake up in the morning after using this my skin feels so soft and velvety. The results are so good I can't stop touching my face! I also noticed some spots on my chin were less prominent and red which I didn't expect from this mask.

The moisturisation effect really lasts too as when I get in from work the day after using this, my skin still feels super hydrated as if I've only just applied my moisturiser.

I'm really impressed with this mask and I'm glad I bought it, even if it was on the expensive side at £26.00. As it's a 50ml bottle and I'm not using it every day I'm sure it will last for months anyway.

Have you tried this mask or any other Dr Jart+ skincare? Let me know what you think :)

Anatomicals Body Scrub Review

I received the Anatomicals Don't Just Clean It Woman, Scrub It Body Scrub in my October GlossyBox and I finally got round to using it last weekend so I thought I'd share my thoughts on it.

Anatomicals is a brand I hadn't tried before but I've often thought about trying some of their products when I've seen them on ASOS.

The scrub comes in a squeezy bottle which makes it easy to dispense the product. The scrub is a clear gel formula containing lots of small apricot seeds. For a body scrub, I don't find this to be as scrubby as I would like. I'm used to my Soap and Glory scrubs which contain much bigger scrub particles and make your skin super smooth. When rubbing this scrub into my thighs, it felt more like a shower gel and I didn't feel like my skin was exfoliated. To be honest, it actually feels more like a face scrub than a body scrub!

The other thing to note about this product is the smell which apparently is pink grapefruit. When using this the shower smelled like household cleaning products! It really wasn't pleasant. Just as I was about to write this review I noticed on the back of the tube it mentions "think of your body as the kitchen floor" and funnily enough it smells like you're cleaning the kitchen floor!

Have you tried this body scrub? Let me know your thoughts. Also if you've tried any other Anatomicals products I'd love to hear about them in case I'm missing something great.

Models Own Nail Polish Collection

Today I thought I'd share my Models Own Nail Polish collection with you. I currently own 16 Models Own nail polishes in a variety of finishes so I thought it may be useful to put some swatches on my blog.

Models Own is one of my favourite nail polish brands as they are only £5 for 14ml and they are always great quality. They are easy to paint on to the nail and they dry reasonably fast. With half of the ones I own, I can get a pretty opaque finish with just one coat. The glitter shades and some of the light or shimmery shades will need further coats as with most brands.

I think Models Own have a fantastic range of colours and they always seem to be bringing new collections out to keep us fans interested. I'm really liking the look of the Mirrorball and Wonderland collections at the moment.

Here's a close up of the bottles I have in my collection:

L to R: Top Turquoise, Coral Reef, Pink Blush and Jade Stone

L to R: Lili's Pink, Champagne, Pink Fever, Indian Ocean Beetle Juice and Purple Blue Beetle Juice

L to R: Juicy Jules, Orange Sherbet, Pink Punch and Bubblegum

L to R - All HedKandi: Hedonist, Ibiza Mix and Disco Heaven

Now on to the nail swatches...

Clockwise from thumb: Top Turquoise, Coral Reef, Pink Blush, Jade Stone and Lili's Pink

Clockwise from little finger: Juicy Jules, Purple Blue Beetle Juice, Indian Ocean Beetle Juice, Pink Fever and Champagne

Clockwise from thumb: Orange Sherbet, Pink Punch, Bubblegum, Hedonist and Ibiza Mix

Disco Heaven: The larger pieces of glitter are blue/green but my camera hasn't picked that up unfortunately

Hope you enjoyed looking at my collection :)

What are your favourite Models Own polishes? Any recommendations?

MaxFactor Max Effect Mini Nail Polish in Fantasy Fire

At the beginning of the year a lot of beauty bloggers were raving about this nail polish and although I bought it, I never got round to trying it out! Last night I was looking through my nail polish collection for something I hadn't tried before (yes there are a few of these!) and this caught my eye.

This is one of two Max Effect Mini Nail Polishes in my collection and I think it's such an interesting colour. It's mainly purple but it when the light reflects on it, lots of other colours shine though such as blue, red and green.

As I painted the first layer on my nails I noticed this is an extremely sheer polish and the final look on my photos is with three coats and although it was almost opaque, the photos taken with a flash show my nail line very clearly! I think you would need four, possibly five coats to get a proper opaque finish.

I do like the colour of this polish and it does dry quite quickly between coats but I don't think I will be reaching for this polish very often as I don't have the patience for applying at least three coats!

This nail polish costs £3.99 (Boots) which is fairly reasonable and I like the mini size since I never use up a full nail polish!

Have you tried this polish or any of the other Max Effect Mini Polishes? What are your thoughts?

MUA Nail Constellation in Gemini

I'm not very adventurous or creative with my nails so nail art isn't something I'm usually into. I've recently seen these MUA Nail Constellations popping up on beauty blogs and I thought they seemed like an easy way to get interesting nails.

MUA Nail Constellations are little bottles containing tiny multi-coloured metallic beads that are applied on top of nail polish. There are 5 variations called Gemini, Leo, Libra, Pisces and Scorpio which have different colour combinations. I bought the Gemini one which consists of pink, blue and purple beads.

The funnel applicator makes it easy to aim the beads on to the nail and you simply press the beads into your freshly applied nail polish to make them stick. You can then apply a top coat of polish to help keep them in place. It's best to apply the beads over a sheet of paper so you can collect any unused beads and pour them back into the bottle.

At only £3.00, I think these are a fab way to try a new look with your nails without having to be an artist!

For my nail look, I went for Leighton Denny nail polish in Babydoll over all of my nails and chose to apply the Nail Constellation to my ring finger only. I think I'll experiment with more combinations at the weekend and maybe look into buying more colours!

Have you tried MUA Nail Constellations? Which is your favourite?
