January GlossyBox

My January GlossyBox arrived today! This is a Valentine's Day themed box and I love the hot pink colour. I reckon it should be this colour every month!

I'd been naughty and already saw pictures of this month's GlossyBox so I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong as I received a different variety!

All of the boxes I've seen on blogs seem to contain the following three items as standard:
  • First Aid Beauty Gentle Body Wash
  • Murad Skin Perfecting Primer
  • Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner
Plus I noticed the final two (of five) products seem to have multiple options. I saw people with Clarins Day and Night Creams, plus others had a couple of products by a brand called Davines which I've never heard of. I think I would have been disappointed with the Davines option and I would have liked the Clarins but I have a lot of moisturiser to use up at the moment! I'm really happy with what I received - I got Weleda One Step Cleanser and Toner as well as a mini Orly Nail Polish in the shade Ruby, a lovely deep red.

I was happy to receive the First Aid Beauty Body Wash as it's a brand I've looked at a few times in Boots but never purchased from.

I'm not sure if the Murad primer is going to be very good on my super pale skin but I'll certainly give it a go.
At first I assumed I had the pale pink colour Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner everyone else seemed to have... then I noticed it was the shade Plum so I was very chuffed about that as I think it's an easier colour to use plus it will complement my green eyes :D

I'm really happy with this month's GlossyBox and I'm glad I re-subscribed to the service in December. Since this box was later this month I'm hoping I won't have to wait too long for my next box as I get too excited for my parcels to arrive!

Do you subscribe to GlossyBox? Which combination of products did you receive? What are your thoughts?

No7 Beautiful Skin

Well here's my third post of the evening!

I was in Boots on Friday picking up a few essentials and using up my last few No7 vouchers to stock up on face wipes and eye make up remover when I spotted some changes to the No7 range.

Lots of the products had been rebranded to "Beautiful Skin" and there seemed to be a few new ones as well. It seems like the range is now more separated into different skin types which is great as everyone is different. There is some info about it on the website here if you want to take a look.

I love the No7 wipes as they have the right amount of moisture in them to remove my mascara. I hate it when wipes are so dry or even too wet! I love the way you can reseal them properly using the plastic lid on the top. I also love the Eye Makeup Remover as it removes makeup fast and with ease. It leaves my eyes feeling hydrated too.

Both of these products have also had a revamp into the "Beautiful Skin" range as you can see below. I think the new packaging is great as they look more modern and fresh. I think the range will appeal to new customers a lot more as the old packaging looked more old fashioned and aimed at the more mature lady.

As far as I'm aware these products are still the same inside but I've yet to use them as I have more supplies to use up first! I've noticed there is no longer a pump for the eye makeup remover though, it's now a screw top and you just dispense the product straight from the plastic rim.

I also spotted their spring collection makeup and I liked the look of the highlighter and this gorgeous pink lippie.

Well done No7, very impressed :)

January Empties

Hey again :)

Just thought I'd pop up a post about some of the products I've used up in January.

Liz Earle Botanical Shine Conditioner for Normal Hair - I received this as part of a 9 piece set for Christmas. This is a small 50ml size which was slightly annoying as they put a full size shampoo in the set so I would have liked to have used them together until they ran out but never mind, it was still a good value set. I expected this conditioner to be quite runny, based on my previous experience with a "natural" haircare range - Burts Bees I'm talking about you! I was pleasantly surprised to find out this was quite thick and moisturising so I didn't have to ruin my hair brushing it through afterwards! I quite liked the scent as I expected it to be more of a herbal smell but it was quite fruity due to the apples and oranges in it. At £8.00 for the full 200ml size, it doesn't seem too expensive but I don't think I was wowed enough to buy it again.

Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash - This product has that herbal kinda scent I was talking about before. I guess this is due to the rose-scented geranium but it's not really something I'd choose. I prefer sweeter scents. It was quite nice though once I got used to it. The main thing I liked about this body wash is that it's quite thick and moisturising on the skin. I hate using shower gels that are so thin and run through your fingers before you get a chance to wash yourself with it! This lathered up really well and I could see a full size lasting quite a while. The full 200ml size of this would cost £11.25 and I don't think I'd be willing to pay that. I'd rather have a bottle of sweet smelling Philosophy shower gel for a few pounds more to be honest.

Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel - I was happy to get this sample size as I'd been wanting to try this cleanser for a while. It's one of those cleansers that apply like a gel but when you add water it turns into a milk. It smells lovely and sweet due to the fruit extracts. I really wanted to like this product but I think I've spoilt myself by using the luxurious Pro Radiance Cream Cleanser! This totally didn't compare to that. It's quite nice and it doesn't leave my skin feeling tight which is great but I wasn't amazed like with the cream cleanser. I think I'm more used to a thick cream now so this is too thin for my liking.

What have you been using up this month and what are your thoughts? Any re-purchases on the cards?

January Favourites

Hi everyone :)

So glad it's almost the end of January now! It's been such a long month and I can't wait to get paid on Tuesday! Can't wait to hit the shops next weekend :D

Most of my favourites in January have been skincare products. I love buying skincare and I received quite a bit for Christmas so some of the items were gifts from then.

Lets get started...

Elemis Skin Buff - Yep a product from my fave skincare brand! This is the best facial exfoliater I've ever tried. I received it for Christmas so I haven't been using it very long but I'm loving it so far. I tend to use it once a week as I don't want to over exfoliate my skin. It's a thick creamy liquid containing lots of tiny gritty, exfoliating bits. It feels like a very fine salt. If you rub it in gently it does not hurt but you can tell it will get rid of all of the nasty dead skin cells clogging up your face. It leaves my face looking a lot more radiant and it doesn't dry the skin out too much either.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish - This thick and creamy face wash does a great job at fully cleansing my skin without stripping the moisture from it. I haven't used it to remove a full face of makeup as I only really wear foundation on nights out (which are very rare lately) so I can't comment on how good it is at that but for what I want it for it's lovely. It has a herbal scent to it which I wasn't keen on at first but it doesn't bother me now. I think I still prefer my Elemis Pro Radiance Cream Cleanser but I do quite like how this Liz Earle one is in a squeezy tube so I can tell how much of the product is left.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair - Wow! I've only been using this for two weeks but I think it's amazing! I've been using it every night (bar a few lazy nights) and it's doing wonders for my skin. My skin has been so much more hydrated and I wake up looking more fresh. The main thing I noticed after just one night of using the product is that the line I tend to get across my forehead had pretty much disappeared! I also feel like my skin has more of a glow to it. I love stroking my cheeks and feeling how soft they are now! I think this product has even helped with evening out my skintone slightly. The redness around my nose and chin seems to fade by the time I wake up in the morning. This is really expensive but I think my 50ml bottle will last me ages and the results are definately worth the price.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eyes - I've also been using this for two weeks and I really like it. It does a lovely job at keeping my eyes hydrated while I'm asleep and it even seems to reduce the "pillow wrinkes" I seem to wake up with. I must be pressing my head firmly into my pillow while I'm asleep causing the skin to stay wrinkled for a while once I wake up!

Origins GinZing Eye Cream - This is another product I've only been using for two weeks but it's a refreshing change as I got bored of using Clinique All About Eyes Rich several times in a row. I love that this cream is still very hydrating, something I need as I can't put concealer on my dark circles without a moisturising eye cream! The illuminating effect of this eye cream is also nice. I wouldn't say it has a massive effect but it does brighten up my eyes a bit but as I put concealer straight on top anyway I'm not too bothered.

Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil - This is a real treat for the skin and lets you have a little spa experience in your own home. The oil feels so silky and it absorbs quickly into the skin. It leaves my skin feeling gorgeously soft for a few days after using it. The scent is really nice, it's not a feminine scent it's more of a sensual, slightly spicy aroma so I think men could enjoy the experience as well ;) I think this bottle will last for ages as it seems like I'm pouring loads onto my skin but there is hardly any gone from the bottle!

Elemis Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream - I've already mentioned this on my blog here and I've continued to love it for the rest of January. It is lovely and hydrating for the hands but not greasy at all. Some creams I think are more suited to bedtime to give them time to soak in overnight but this is great for day and you could use a thicker layer at night for an extra special treat.

YSL Parisienne Perfume - I bought this in the Christmas sales and it's soooo divine. I normally don't like fragrances by the high end makeup counters as they can often be too overpowering for my liking. I was initially attracted to this as I want to go to Paris sometime very soon and anything with Paris in the name catches my eye! This smells like Parma Violets but more sophisticated! I fell in love with it straight away and it had to be mine...

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara - I've already reviewed this mascara on my blog here so take a look for pictures but I'm still enjoying using it. It's the only mascara I've used all month and I'm glad I still have lots left as it's brilliant at creating volume as well as separating the lashes.

The Body Shop Born Lippy Lip Balm in Mango Peach - My last favourite for January. A fantastic lip balm that smells great. I could sit sniffing the pot all day hehe. (Probably doesn't sound right but hopefully you know what I mean! :D ) It's a thick, non sticky balm which protects my lips from the cold, harsh weather. Bring on summer!
Hope you enjoyed reading my favourites. Link me up to your favourites as I love reading/watching them. Let me know if you share any of my favourites as well.

Thanks for reading,

Lilac FOTD

Hey there beauty lovers :)

Hope you've all had a great weekend. I haven't done a lot today so I spent a bit of time playing with some Accessorize makeup I hadn't used yet.

Here is the look I created:

These are the products I used:

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, MUA Clear Mascara for the brows, Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara, Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Powder, Accessorize Blush in Wowzer, Accessorize Peony Union Jack eyeshadow palette, Benefit High Beam, NARS Lipstick in Venice

Accessorize Peony Union Jack eyeshadow palette with swatches

I also tried my sachet of Liz Earle Sheer Skin Tint in Bare 01 as a base for this look. It felt quite greasy on my skin to begin with but I think I used slightly too much. It did a good job at evening out my skin tone as I don't have any spots at the moment, just horrible scars left by spots! After a little powder I liked the look so I may give this a go some time. Almost forgot to mention how soft my skin felt after removing this as well so that's definitely a bonus!

Tonight was the first time I'd tried any of my new Sigma brushes from the Naughty in Black travel kit I won a little while ago. The brushes I used tonight are in the photo below. I love each and every one of them!

Sigma Makeup Brushes: F86, F84, F30, E40, E30, F70, E55

Hope you enjoyed this look :)

Bye for now,

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy

Good morning :)

Hope you are having a lovely weekend so far. I had a nice long walk at the coast yesterday. It was freezing but it was nice to get some fresh air and do some walking for a change!

I thought I'd show you some pictures of the YSL Volupte Sheer Candy I bought last week. I bought it in shade 9 - Goyave Sorbet, a wonderful bright pink colour with a hint of shimmer. This one has been released as part of the Spring 2012 Collection.

The colour applies as a sheer tint to the lips. The packaging describes it as a glossy balm. This is exactly how it feels on the lips, there is no stickiness at all, it just feels smooth like a balm. I really like this product as I still haven't really worked up to wearing lipstick outside of my house yet so this feels like I'm applying a lipstick but it's more of a sheer balm so I can wear it with confidence!

As with every YSL product, I LOVE the packaging. I like the silver metal bullet that shows the actual colour of the product in the middle. I guess that would be great for when you have lots of shades as you can easily see which one you want to use without having to read the names or take the lid off.

I really liked the look of the peachy one too, I think that was shade number 2. Maybe I'll buy it if I get some more vouchers!

Do you own any YSL lipsticks? Which type do you like best? Send links to any reviews/swatches as I would love to see them :)

Winter Saviours

Hi everyone :)

Just wanted to tell you about some products I've been loving at the moment. They are lip balms and hand creams. Essentials for the winter!

The two lip balms I've been reaching for are Dermalogica AGE Smart Renewal Lip Complex and The Body Shop Born Lippy Lip Balm in Mango Peach. I received the Dermalogica lip balm in my October GlossyBox. I only just got round to using it in December/January. I have a 1ml sample tube with barely any product left. I could probably squeeze a tiny bit more out! I really enjoyed using this lip balm as it's a thick, glossy balm which coats and protects the lips from the cold and adds lots of moisture as well. I think it's the best lip balm I've tried for actually treating and healing the lips. The RRP for this product appears to be £22.50 for 1.75ml so I'm not sure if I will repurchase this as it seems a lot to pay for a lip balm. A good close second would be the Blistex Lip Relief Cream. I would say this does a great job at repairing the lips but it's more of a night time use only balm for me as leaves a white colour on the lips. Definately worth a try since it's so cheap though - between £2 and £3.

The Body Shop lip balm is great as it smells soooo good. It's really fruity and sweet. It is also quite a thick balm which feels like it is protecting my lips from the cold. I wouldn't say it's amazing at repairing damaged lips but I enjoy using it due to the scent!

On to the hand creams... I love L'Occitane hand creams especially the ones containing Shea Butter. They are great at nourishing dry hands. The regular shea butter is lovely but I've been enjoying using the Cocoa Flower one I received free in Marie Claire magazine a few months ago. I like to use this one at night as it's quite thick it can take a while to sink in. It's not horribly greasy like some hand creams but I like to put quite a lot on at night. You could easily apply a bit less and still go about your normal daily activities without that icky feeling on your hands though.

My final favourite is Elemis Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream. This hand cream is quite unique as it has no greasy feeling whatsoever when you rub it into your hands. I feel like it leaves a matte finish on the skin, it's great. I would recommend this for day or night use. This one also does a good job at moisturising my hands so I think I have a winning formula with all 4 of the products I've mentioned!

The best kind of shopping is...

...free shopping! I'm sure you'll all agree :)

I had some John Lewis vouchers to spend so I got myself the following goodies:

  • YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in Shade 9 Goyave Sorbet
  • Origins GinZing Eye Cream
  • Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

I'd been after the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair for a while but it's rather expensive so I was glad to get some vouchers! Plus since seeing it in one of Anna's hauls I had to have it!

I've also been on the market for a new eye cream after buying Clinique All About Eyes Rich several times in a row. I originally wanted to buy Origins Eye Doctor but then I swatched a bit of GinZing on my hand and I really liked the illuminating effect. I have really bad dark circles so I'm hoping this will give my concealer a helping hand at covering them!

I'm a sucker for gorgeous packing and have been lusting after a YSL lipstick for a while. I think this one is from their Spring 2012 collection and I love the colour! I haven't actually tried it on my lips yet. In fact I haven't even twisted the lipstick up out of the tube, it's too pretty to touch! I'll probably give it a go tomorrow, for now I'll just admire it! Hehe.

I still have £25 of John Lewis vouchers to spend so I'm having a think about what else I could get. If you have any suggestions let me know :)

I remembered I had just over £20 of points on my Boots Advantage card to spend so I thought I may as well get more "free" stuff.

This is what I chose:

Front of outer packaging

It is the Pixi Ultimate Beauty Kit. This set contains 32 eyeshadows, 16 lipglosses and 8 cheek powders. It was £20 which is amazing value I think. I already own the Pixi Wakeup Set which is really nice but I haven't used it much lately. Even though I haven't used the new one yet I know I'll like this one even better. I'm especially looking forward to trying some of the blushers.

Here are some more photos in case you are interested:

NOTD - Accessorize Nail Polish in Fudge

Good evening :)

I've worn quite a few bold colours on my nails lately so I decided to go for something more neutral tonight.

This is two coats of Accessorize Nail Polish in the shade Fudge. It's like a nude pinky/peachy/taupey colour. Probably not the best description there!

It applies smoothly and dries fairly quickly just like the other Accessorize Nail Polish I have used. I'd definately recommend Accessorize Nail Polish if you get a chance to pick some up :)

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara

Hello everyone.

Hope you're all having a great weekend so far :)

I just thought I'd do a post on the Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara I got for Christmas so you can see the results it gives.

The shade I have is Extreme Black. I only ever wear black mascara even though I did buy a few coloured ones from MUA a few weeks ago but I haven't tried those yet.

I love this mascara. It's the first Estee Lauder mascara I've tried and I'm glad I chose this one. The description on the box says:

"Sumptous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara. Lashes seem to multiply, magnify and grow instantly. Three different high-volume fibers create dramatic build for a falsh lash effect. With conditioning and silkening Lash-Advancing Vitamin Complex. Lustrous color leaves eyes brighter and wider"

I can't comment on the conditioning effects of the mascara as I've only been using it for around a week but I do love the visual effects! The brush is quite big but it's easy to use. It does a great job of separating my lashes and creating volume as well as length. It lasts all day without crumbling or smudging. I even wore it at the gym yesterday and it stayed on throughout my workout so that's always a bonus! I find this mascara fine to remove with wipes, water and cleanser or eye make up remover.

The packaging of this mascara is lovely too, a bit like YSL packaging which I love!

This mascara is rather expensive at £22.00 but I think it is worth it. I managed to get this in a set with a free mini eye makeup remover and Advanced Night Repair for Eyes for the same price so I was really happy about that. I would still re-purchase this again without those items though. Just had a quick look and found the set on the Boots website in case you're interested.

Here are some before and after photos so you can see the results:

Before (with no mascara)

After (with one coat of Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme)

Hope you found this blog post useful :)

What's your favourite mascara? Have you found any good ones lately? Let me know below.

Philosophy UK Website

Hi again!

I just thought I'd put up a quick post about Philosophy. I saw on their Facebook page that they have just launched a UK website! Yay finally! I've always enjoyed looking at the American site as they have so many more products than Boots or John Lewis but the costly shipping has always put me off purchasing anything.

I think it's great they have finally given us UK fans a website. Go on Philosophy fans - take a look:

Sigma Giveaway Prize

Evening All :)

I came home from work to an amazing parcel tonight! I entered a giveaway on Stina's blog - Chic Beauty Blog - and amazingly I won! I love Stina's blog and I love how she has started making videos on YouTube as well. If you don't already follow Stina please check out her blog as I'm sure you will love it as much as I do :)

On to the prize...

I won the Sigma Travel Kit plus a Duo Fibre F50 brush to go with it. I love how Sigma have packaged the brushes. How cute are these purple drawstring bags?!

I love the little leaflets you get explaining what each brush is for.

The pouch you get to store the brushes is great. It is like a roll up pouch with a magnetic fastener

The Travel Kit contains:
  • Large Powder - F30
  • Large Angled Contour - F40
  • Foundation - F60
  • Eye Shading - E55
  • Pencil - E30
  • Tapered Blending - E40
  • Concealer - F70

I checked the Sigma website and saw this set costs $39.00 which is great value for all those brushes.

Here is the Duo Fibre F50 brush

I didn't have much of a brush collection before my Sigma brushes. Just a few eye shadow brushes I got with Boots No7 £5 off vouchers and I've had a few foundation brushes as well. I love my new Sigma Collection. The brushes are amazingly soft and I'm glad I have a brush for all types of makeup application so I can get a professional look. I already bought the Synthetic Kabuki Kit in the Black Friday sale so I know these brushes will be great quality.

Do you own any Sigma brushes? Any recommendations?

Just want to finish this post by saying a MASSIVE thank you to Stina for holding the giveaway and Sigma for providing the prize. I'm soooo happy :D

Thanks for reading,
Suzy
